Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects millions—and many people don’t even know they’re at risk. At Circle of Rights, we aim to change that by helping our communities understand what diabetes is, how it develops, and what can be done to prevent or manage it.

What is diabetes?

It happens when your body can’t properly regulate blood sugar. Over time, high blood sugar can cause serious complications—affecting your heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, and even increasing your risk of stroke.

In our sessions, we focus on:

  • The differences between Type 1, Type 2, and prediabetes
  • Common warning signs, like fatigue, increased thirst, or slow-healing wounds
  • How diabetes is connected to other chronic conditions like high blood pressure and heart disease
  • Healthy habits to lower risk—like balanced eating, physical activity, and regular check-ups
  • Tips for managing diabetes if you’ve been diagnosed

We also break down barriers—talking openly about food insecurity, cultural challenges, and how to find support if you don’t have easy access to healthcare.

Our goal is to make this information real, relatable, and useful—so you can take action to protect your health and support those around you.
